Neuramon On-Chain Game v0.3

General Motivation
We believe in a future where the majority of games will be on-chain. NFTs have demonstrated that people genuinely want to own their collectibles. With on-chain gaming, individuals can also own game logic, strategies, histories of game items, and rewards can be distributed on-chain without any centralized party or company collecting the money. While we’re optimistic about this future, we also believe it’s some distance away due to current technological limitations. Our focus lies on on-chain mechanics, not on a high-end 3D experience. We aim to develop a game that entertains and benefits the Polychain Monsters IP in the long run.
What went wrong and how did we fix it?
We launched the first version of on-chain battles, but numerous bugs arose during the match-making phase — our bad! The Neuramon project should be seen as an extensive public testing stage. Rest assured, all Neuramon sent to the tournament have been returned to their owners. To prevent similar issues in the future, we’ve adjusted some tournament logic:
- Previously, if a player missed a move, the match was instantly lost. Now, missing a move simply means no move is made. Play can resume with the next move.
- Earlier, matchmaking could pair monsters from the same address against each other if randomness dictated. Now, monsters from the same address won’t face off. If one of your monsters lacks a match, it might have to wait a few rounds to find an opponent.
A detailed tutorial on the revamped tournaments is in the works. Meanwhile, we’ve introduced a simpler battle mode.
Direct PvP Battles
In your Neuramon collection, if you click on the details button of a monster, you’ll spot a new “Battle” button. Clicking this and confirming the smart contract calls places your monster in a public matchmaking queue.
When another player submits their Neuramon, a match is created. Matchmaking remains straightforward, and a monster’s strength doesn’t play a role yet. On the PvP Battle page, an icon will indicate your monster’s match status.
During a match:
- Should you decide to withdraw from a match, you can do so. However, this comes with the minor cost of a POL fee (currently ~ 0.00005 ETH). Withdrawing will not reset the HP of your monster and you can’t withdraw defeated monsters.
- For the offensive strategy, you can select from a variety of moves available in a dropdown menu. Our previous posts have detailed the moves currently supported.
- Time plays a role too. Each player has 24 hours to respond with a counter-move. If both participants make their moves within a shorter span, the timer simply resets to 24 hours from that point.
- In the eventual scenario where a monster’s health points (HP) reach zero, it is marked as defeated. The victorious player is then awarded 90% of the PMON associated with the defeated monster, while the remaining 10% contributes to a lottery system.
- Moreover, upon defeating an opponent, your monster’s HP resets, preparing it for the next match. However, should your monster have benefitted from an HP boost previously (perhaps from an adventure), this boost won’t be re-applied in subsequent battles.
- In general, each opponent’s defeat will be recorded as a counter in your monster’s on-chain metadata.
Match History
Currently, a monster’s match history is presented in a basic format. While we believe tokenomics and game design are crucial, we do plan to enhance the UI in due course.
